Cameras at Westminster Abbey captured a moment during a royal event when Meghan Markle appeared to kick at the late Queen’s chair, raising eyebrows and causing a stir on social media. Despite Meghan’s previous claims of not being taught the royal rules, it’s been revealed that the Queen and Prince William’s secretary had offered guidance, but Meghan seemed disinterested in adhering to the rules.
In the viral clip from the 100th-anniversary celebration of the Royal Air Force, Meghan can be seen breaking royal protocol by seemingly kicking at the chair’s leg that the Queen was sitting on. This incident followed a previous one where Meghan wore a black dress to the event, typically reserved for funerals.
During the Westminster Abbey event in July 2018, Meghan was observed briefly crossing her legs and then, in what appeared to be a correction, she used her right leg to kick at the late Queen’s chair. This wasn’t the first time Meghan had faced criticism for breaching royal etiquette.
Earlier, she had crossed her legs during the Young Leaders Awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace, attended by Prince Harry and the Queen.
While there may not be strict official protocols regarding how royal women should sit near the Queen, etiquette experts suggest the most formal posture is to keep knees and ankles together at all times. Mika Mayer, founder of Beaumont Etiquette, emphasized that this posture exudes sophistication and respect. Meghan’s actions during these events seemed to indicate a lack of understanding of the nuances of upper-class etiquette.
Moreover, Meghan’s choice of attire and her handling of accessories like a white hat at Wimbledon also drew criticism, revealing potential breaches of protocol and a lack of awareness of royal customs. These incidents added to the perception that Meghan may not fully grasp the intricacies of royal decorum.
